How Did Tupac Hologram Work

15 years ago, the first Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival was held. This was a couple of years after Tupac Shakur was murdered. This year, the rapper was resurrected for one night through the trickery of light. This made him the most talked about musician who performed in the festival.

Tupac appeared onstage as a hologram during a Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre performance. This was more of a spectacular visual than it was a peformance. you might want to YouTube the performance if you haven't seen it already, which I'm sure you have.

The hologram was so convincing it was scary. When you look at the hologram, it almost looked as if Tupac was right up there on stage with Snoop. The Digital Domain Media Group was responsible for creating th hologram. They were responsible for the special affets for movies like Transformers, and Xmen: First Class.

The way they described it was, an overhead projector that reflects down onto a tilted piece of glass that's positioned on the stage floor. It reflects onto a "mylar" sort of screen and projects this 3-D kind of illusion that enables other performers to walk around and in front of Tupac as well as interact with him.

Snoop and Dre are already talking about taking the hologram out on tour. If this is the case, that means there will be more opportunity for other deceased artists to make their appearances. Performers such as Elvis and Michael Jackson could make their appearances on stage. Of course we would have to wait and see what happens in the future but I wouldn't doubt any issues arising behind this innovative idea. Of course the debate would be over rights and money for these deceased performers but we will have to wait and see what the future has in stored.
